I’ve seen snow, don’t get me wrong. I’ve even seen snow since we moved to Texas, although it’s more often been mixed with sleet and other nastiness.
But today, in North Texas, there was a bona fide blizzard. With real snow… big soft flurries of gorgeousness, piling up all around us. I really couldn’t believe my eyes.
Still, we didn’t think it’d get THAT bad. I mean, it’s Texas. So we decided about 1 p.m. to head the 12 miles to the nearest Wal-Mart and pick up what we needed to make a pie. You’d think Wal-Mart on Christmas Eve would be the crazy part of my story, but it really REALLY wasn’t.
It took us nearly 3 hours to drive that 12 miles back home!!!
First, we headed north on 281, until we were stopped. There, we sat for 1/2 an hour, until someone told us we could turn around, so we did.
There, we sat for 1/2 an hour, until we got around a wreck. Then, although we were only about 3 miles outside Stephenville, it still took us 45 minutes to get back into town so we could take our alternate route home.
And once on that alternate route, it took us nearly 1.5 hours to drive 30 miles. CRAZY! Mack handled the Yukon like a total champ, and even though we got the Tokyo drift experience a few times, we managed to make it home in one piece.
The best thing about it, though, was that I made the trip to town equipped with our 5D Mark II and the 85 mm 1.4 lens. That means I was able to get some really fun pictures! And in the 15 minutes between now and the Christmas Eve service at our church, I decided to blog them, so they’d be easier shared with friends, family, and blogstalkers alike…

Forgive the red-nosed hideousness of this next picture… I wasn’t prepared to model, but it’s a special picture to me because of the rarity of it all. So I’m swallowing my pride and posting it, grateful that Mack snapped it!
