Oh, how we love Meagan & Eric. Let me count the ways.
Actually… um… I won’t count the ways. This blog would start to sound like something creepy, where it’s really just meant to be a deep sense of appreciation for fabulous clients who turn into fabulous friends.
We met Meagan last fall, when she was serving as Maid of Honor in her childhood best friend’s wedding (Morgan & Austin). She wasn’t engaged yet, but she knew she wanted us. Not just that, even… she knew what package she wanted and everything. This girl was READY.
After we helped Eric throw her off the trail to her engagement (sorry Meg!), I knew she’d call us ASAP, and I was right. We are so excited for this wedding in October, and all the lovely fun leading up to it.
And hey… you blogstalkers are going to get to know this couple pretty well, too. This is actually engagement session #1 of 2. The second will take place in June. Then there’s bridals. Then the actual wedding day, which is sure to be epic. So prepare yourselves for seeing a heckuvalot of Meagan & Eric over the next 8 months!
The concept for this engagement shoot was highly weather-dependent. If you’re a North Central Texas reader, you know it’s been raining BUCKETS lately. That makes for a verrrrrry muddy riverbank. But whaddayaknow, it dried up for a few days before the shoot. And then, stroke of genius luck, the sun came out! For one day in the last several weeks, the sun decided to shine… right around the 3 hours of our shoot. YAY! Thanks, Lord!
As Meagan & Eric’s next shoot will be very uptown chic, “Sex In The City”, we wanted this one to be relaxed and cuddly. I’m super thrilled with the way the images turned out, as evidenced by the fact that this may be my longest engagement post to-date.
And now, having talked about how great THEY are and how fun THIS was… I’ll just show you the pictures.

This next series makes my heart happy. Love laughter. (Also, as a note to my techie readers, not a dadgum thing was done to these images but RAW color correction to boost contrast.)

I didn’t do anything to digitally remove the background in the following picture. It was just that bright outside, and that comparatively dark under the bridge. As to why I didn’t fix the exposure to show a little of the riverbank, I’ll quote one of my heroes: “Well, I wasn’t taking a picture of the background, now was I?” — Jasmine Star.

Eric fully embraced my take on engagement portraits, as you can see. I’m all about the muggin’ down.

Ahhh! Nose kisses! I die!

100 Cool Points to the blog reader who guesses the inspiration for this next picture.

The following image was made possible for my willingness to make fun of Eric for his “picture smile”. Who knew that all this time I’ve spent honing my sarcasm would turn out to be a huge asset to my business?

Now we’re talkin’ serious romance…
Guess who, once again, couldn’t decide between treatments? That’s right… THIS GIRL! Both have been fully processed. The shot on the left is just true color which I always adore, as opposed to the heavier effect on the right, which I think gives the image a more wintry feel. I love them both. (Mack’s shot, btw).

Is there anyone out there who doesn’t love a good sunset snuggle?

This last series of images took the most work, and the least amount of time to shoot. See, I got an idea in my head. I wanted to take pictures with a campfire. Well, that means building a campfire… which doesn’t happen lickety-split when you have to gather the wood and all that. So Meagan and I sat in the truck and talked weddings, while the boys got all manly and made fire!
I so appreciate clients who are willing to step out of the box a little to help make a vision in my head come true. That generally says that they trust me… and hey, by the looks of these pictures, I think it paid off. They’re exactly what I had in my head!
(Oh, also… Meagan went and bought a red scarf SPECIFICALLY for these pictures, because I said that’s what I had in my head. I figured she’d just borrow one.
Either way, I think it’s the perfect addition, as it picks up the warmth of the fire and looks tremendously cozy. Mission accomplished!)

Have you ever seen a 7.5 months pregnant photographer crawl around in the mud in pursuit of the perfect shot? These two have…

How many times I have I said, “This is my new favorite portrait session,” or “This is my favorite wedding” ? Lots, I know. I’m saying it again. This is my new favorite engagement session. And ya know what, next week, that might change.
Someone told me about 6 months ago that when I assign “new favorite” to things so frequently, the statement loses meaning. This person said I should reserve enthusiasm, and treat every shoot the same, so it doesn’t seem like I’m picking favorites.
I disagree. I think I pick new favorites because we grow, and our work grows. I think the fact that I love each new session the best means that I’m continuing to fall in love with what we do, over and over again.
Meagan & Eric, we had so much fun with you, it’s probably criminal somewhere. You are the kind of people that make us fall in love with love… fall in love with what we do… over and over again. We hope you adore these pictures the same way we do, and we can’t wait to see you again!
