Mack Commandeers the Blog: Florence Nightingale Edition

So as many of you saw on Monday, Chelsea is a bit out of commission this week… and, since a ton of you follow us on social media, you know WHY. Chelsea had her wisdom teeth removed, like most teenagers twentysomethings have to do. It’s not fun, but it’s a necessity a great deal of the time. She’s doing just fine, and we’ll be back to work in no time flat, but for a couple of days it makes life slow around here.

Now that I think about it, it makes things REALLY slow around here. See, a huge part of what Chelsea does around here isn’t necessarily “take pictures”. Sure, she’s doing killer work with her camera, but she’s also “on” all the time. From inquiries, to correspondence with brides about scheduling, styling, vendor advice, in-law issues… Homegirl is CONSTANTLY working for our clients/friends. Even when we were on vacation, twice a day she’s hammering at the keyboard answering all those e-mails. She invests so much emotionally in each of our couples that it’s impossible to get her to take a real break. I think a lot of our clients even recognize this, which is one of the reasons I love social media. I love the way you guys will preface e-mails with “I know you’re on vacation, so don’t you dare get back to me until Monday!”

So while I really can’t stand that she’s hurting, or occasionally out of it, I AM glad that this whole mess forces her to slow down a bit this week. She totally deserves a rest, even if it is medically induced. Maybe after this is all over, I can bribe her with a day on the couch with ice cream so she’ll take a day off!

Also– Several of her “friends” wanted me to take and post hilarious video, but I really didn’t want to sleep in the dog house for a week after she found them, so I was nice;-)Plus, she was too composed to be entertaining. Seriously, she was just like sleepy normal. After the stories from when I had my wisdom teeth removed, I was hoping for something a little more entertaining! However, in the spirit of keeping everyone happy, I decided that it would be acceptable to mention that SHE drunk-posted (sedative-posted? Anesthesia-posted?) on Instagram yesterday while I was in the pharmacy getting her prescriptions. (chelsea_mcgowan)

You’re welcome. To make up for what I just did, PLEASE leave her some love in the comments, or on Facebook, or whatever. Comments are like cupcakes;-)

Now I have to get back to the living room with some Blue Bell!

Loren B. - I know the EXACT feeling of having started a remodel and being thisclose to being done only to have a couple of loose ends that take years to tie up. Specifically OUR bedroom. It’s just so darn comfy that I haven’t lost any sleep over it yet though. :) I love the blue and the gorgeous, gorgeous couple on the walls!!! And the acrylic gallery mount? Dying. The headboard reminded me who’s to blame for my One King’s Lane addiction. Mmm hmmmm, I’m looking at you! My very favorite things about this room though, are the personal touches kept clean and classy. Souvenirs from travels + tchotchke collection = perfect way to inject your personality into a beautiful space! Well done! :)

Jordyn & Joey on Style Me Pretty!

It’s a happy day around here!! We’re thrilled that Style Me Pretty has chosen to feature Jordyn & Joey’s gorgeous handmade wedding on their Texas blog today… this is one of our favorite weddings of all time, and we hope the intimate sweetness of this event inspires future barefoot brides!
And, of course, we hope those barefoot brides call McG.;)
Click HERE or on the screencap below to check out the feature, and be sure to leave us some love over on SMP!

Thanks again, Mr. & Mrs. Pitts, for prioritizing McG when planning your perfect wedding. We were honored to be there, and can’t wait to photograph y’all again!

Abby - Love seeing this!!! This wedding is still one of my very favorites!!

Erin & Kyle Got Married!

It looks like that Groundhog saw his shadow after all… we’ve had another round of blustery cold stormy weather blow through the DFW area this weekend! All the hail & gale-force winds couldn’t knock the smiles from Erin & Kyle’s faces on Saturday, though. This sweet couple’s wedding was exactly the classy uptown affair they wanted it to be, and we were so glad to be there capturing memories for them!

This will be a slow blog week, because I (Chelsea) get to have all four of my wisdom teeth cut out tomorrow. Womp womp!:(But rest assured, we’ve planned for there to be lots more from this gorgeous wedding here for you to see on Friday!:)

Just to get you excited for what’s to come, here’s a peek…

Congratulations, Mr. & Mrs. Cooper! We hope your first week as old married folks is wonderful!:)

Girls on Film is getting a Facelift!

Today, over on the Girls On Film boudoir blog, I’ve posted a recap from last weekend’s Spring 2013 Marathon! We had 14 lovely ladies come out to get prettified by megBdesign and pose for their sessions. Everyone had an absolute blast, and I’m massaging the calendar right now to see if we can do another event like this in the fall!

Because here’s the thing, guys… I heart boudoir. Weddings are awesome, and as a partnership with my sweetheart, they’re a joy to photograph. I love that weddings (and couples in love!) are the biggest part of McGowan Images. But the work I do for Girls on Film is some of the most challenging & most rewarding work I’ve ever done in my life. I cherish the trust that my clients place in me, and knowing that I get to help them feel like superstars fills my heart up with the happies.

To that end, we plan on giving the Girls on Film website a bit of a facelift in the coming months. Leave it to me to decide to do this during the thick of wedding season… but hey, sometimes that’s the way life happens.:)It’s time for my boudoir work to have a home on the internet as unique as the work itself, and I’m excited to showcase what I can do in a whole new way!

If you are interested in a Girls on Film session, please email me! I’ve got a handful of spots left throughout the summer, and would love to add some new ladies to the 2013 roster.

If you’ve shot a Girls on Film session with me anytime in the last few years (I’ve been shooting these since 2008, so that’s quite a few of you!:)), I have a special favor to ask you. I’d like the new website to include a “rave reviews” section, where past boudoir clients can share testimonials from their experiences with me. It’s all well & good to have a fantastic final product, but it means just as much to me that my girls have a blast… a start-to-finish killer experience is my ultimate goal.

I’m proud that so many of you have had that kind of experience, and if you could take a few minutes to put together a couple sentences for me (either via email, or in the comments below), I would be eternally grateful. Girls on Film has ONLY grown because you are such brilliant evangelists for my boudoir work, and I know I owe the success of this little company all to your beautiful selves.

And now, get your butt over to the Girls on Film blog to see what gorgeousness I got to work with last weekend. No better way to start your weekend, I guarantee it.:)

Happy 10th Birthday, Jack!

Dear Jack,

When you went to bed last night, you were a 9 year old boy. You probably dreamed about Star Wars, and maybe a little about that pretty girl in your class that you won’t admit you like. And really, I know those things won’t change overnight. You’ll be the same boy today that you were yesterday.

But I know you’re different. And slowly, a little bit every day, you’re growing up on me. I’m trying to resist the urge to kick my feet and cry, because I know it’s got to happen. But double digits??? That’s just not fair. You can’t be 10 years old yet. It happened too fast.

You’re smart & hilarious & kind & sensitive… and hey, a little infuriating sometimes, but that’s ok. Before too long, I’m sure I’ll miss your 10-year-old infuriating mannerisms when your teenager-ness starts taking over our house.

I’m not sure how long you’ll let me keep doing Birthday photo shoots of you, but I hope you always let me capture the milestones in your life this way.

Happy birthday, to our wonderful 10-year-old Jack. We love you, and we’re proud of you!

Christy Duh - Dear Jack,

You are a total badass. I know we aren’t supposed to say that to ten year olds but it’s still totally true. You are such a blast to hang out with and I’m pretty sure you can’t say that about most 10 year old boys. Pretty soon I won’t have to let you beat me at a light saber duel, you just will and I will cry and blame my bad knees and your young legs. Keep being you and listen to your parents (for the most part) and you’ll be something this world needs more than it knows. STAR WARS!
