WELCOME TO THE BLOG

Meet Gertie!

Blogstalkers, meet the newest member of the McGowan family… GERTIE!

We picked up this 8-week-old Havanese puppy yesterday, and ohmygoodness, we’re so in love with her! She’s technically a present for Dorothy’s first birthday, which isn’t until April 21, but when we saw a great deal on this dog, we couldn’t pass it up.

Normally, I’m a huge proponent of adopting animals instead of buying, but in this case, we needed something sturdy and hypoallergenic. Gertie fits the bill perfectly! Havanese aren’t as yappy or delicate as other toy breeds, but they’re still good and little and cuddly. This sweet baby likes my lap the best. 🙂 She and Dorothy are getting along really well, and Jack loves her too. We’re so excited about this addition to our family!

You know what’s hard, though? Photographing puppies. You know what’s even HARDER? Photographing a puppy with her toddler human. Jeez, it was exhausting, and the pictures we finally managed to get are nothing to write home about. I’ll be trying again when we do Dot’s 11 month pictures next month. Maybe by then, they’ll be a little more used to life together. It’ll help to have Jack home, too… he’s pretty great at corralling small crazy things. 🙂 Fingers crossed!

When they’re both still this small, Mack can quickly scoop them up out of a potential mess. Dot will eventually outgrow the single-arm carrying method… luckily, Gertie never will.

This seems to be how I’ll be working from now on, and I’m totally fine with that. (You’ll have to excuse the makeup-less face and slouchy hat, that’s just the way Fridays are in the McG office. They’re much like Monday-Thursday, in that respect. 🙂 )

AHH! So sweet! Even with a dirty face, and unwashed eyes, you can’t help but fall in love.

When she falls asleep in her office crate, it looks very much like someone just left a dust mop head in there. My dad called her “a piece of lint with a personality.” In the nicest way, of course.

I hope everyone enjoys this lovely weekend! We’ve got a wedding tomorrow, and you know what that means… lots of blogs next week!
